Essential Surf School was established by Fiona and Peter Hunt, two very keen and experienced surfers. All instructors are passionate surfers, having backgrounds in surfing and surf lifesaving.

Our aim is to teach surfing in a safe, fun environment providing ocean skills and knowledge that will stay with you for a lifetime.

We cater for complete beginners of all ages to intermediate surfers looking to fine tune their skills. We will get you surfing!

Group bookings - school, youth, social and corporate group packages are available.

Weekend packages including accommodation and surfing can be arranged.

We guarantee a great session of surfing!

As safety and enjoyment are foremost, we reserve the right to postpone or cancel lessons if ocean conditions are deemed dangerous. Lessons will be rescheduled at a convenient time for you. We will not place students in a dangerous situation.

ACCREDITATION

Essential Surf School is fully accredited and insured.

We are Wollongong City Council approved, and licensed to operate at Coledale and McCauleys beaches.

Chief instructors are current St.John Ambulance first aid certificate and proficient surf bronze medallion holders.

We are proud to be affiliated with the Academy of Surfing Instructors.

WHAT TO BRING?

We supply all equipment, rash vests, wetsuits, surfboards - the lot, we even have sunscreen. Simply bring a towel, dry clothes, swimmers, your own wetsuit if you prefer and you're ready for some fun!

THE EQUIPMENT

We use the safest surfboards available, soft deck, soft rails and most importantly, soft, flexible rubber fins, eliminating the cause of most surfing related injuries.

The surf boards are purpose designed for learning to surf, and we have the correct board for your size and ability.
